PHOTO REVIEW: Digimon Domez Blind Bagged Series

DSCN5239

I’ve always preferred Digimon (Digital Monsters) over the many other Japanese multi-creature franchises, such as Pokemon. Sure Digimon has a host of adorable critters to collect, but it’s much edgier with it’s evolved creations. Where the too cute Pikachu stands out as the mascot for Pokemon, the way cooler looking Greymon (and his “Metal” cousin) are instantly recognizable as the poster children for Digimon.

DSCN5254Distributed exclusively in North America by UCC Distributing, Zag Toys’ newest collection of Domez is based on this long-running property. Digimon Domez (say that fast ten times in a row!) utilize the same clever concept I talked about in-depth with my Gravity Falls Domez review HERE. In a nutshell, each mini PVC figure comes encased in a clear dome that you can stack and connect. Each Domez measures about 3-inches tall, and while the figures inside can not be removed, the trade off is a much tighter display.

There are nine (9) characters to collect in this Digimon assortment. These include Agumon, Gabumon, Biyomon, Tentomon, Palmon, Gomamon, Patamon, and Gatomon, as well as the super-rare chase figure, Greymon!

Out of the 24 blind bags I opened, I received almost three complete sets of eight. I say almost, because Gatomon was short one, unless you count the teaser display figure.

Greymon, the evolution of Agumon, is indeed rare. Only ONE figure of the horned Dinosaur Digimon was in the counter display of 24 pieces. So if you open a Greymon, do a little happy dance. You are one lucky Digimon Domez collector!

It’s kind of a shame that Greymon is so rare, as the evolved Digimon characters are much edgier than their cute siblings. One way to do that would be to have every basic Digimon include an evolved counterpart. Just cut the core character assortment down to four, and have their evolved form fill the wave out to eight.DSCN5251Nothing says “collect them all!” quite like  a franchise based around 200+ characters. Digimon was made to be a blind bag series. Colorful and creative, I enjoyed everyone of these digital monster Domez, although if I had to pick a favorite I’d go with Greymon (of course!) followed closely by the bat-like Patamon.

Digimon Domez are in stores now priced at a MSRP of $4.99 each. Happy hunting!

    Which stores are they at?

  2. If you have all of them, do you think you could compile a code list? The codes that tell you which figure is which are on the bottom of the dome

Hey I know this is over a year old but I’ve recently come across these at EB games. I got Palmon but would be interested to know what the codes are for Gatomon and Gabumon. The numbers on the bottom of their domes are their serial numbers.
