You’d be hard-pressed to find someone that hasn’t heard of Motley Crue. A “glam rock” staple of the ’80s, the band shot to the top with a string of hit songs, including “Girls, Girls, Girls,” “Shout At The Devil,” and “Dr. Feelgood” – just to name a few. Practicing what they preached, the group also gained notoriety for their bad boy behavior.
Motley Crue’s final show took place on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2015, but the group is still as popular as ever. To celebrate the legend and legacy of the greatest touring rock ‘n’ roll band of all time, Locoape – a music merchandise branch of retailer Toynk.com – has released a series of limited edition resin bobbleheads of all four band members: Vince Neil (vocals), Mick Mars (lead guitar), Nikki Sixx (bass) and Tommy Lee (drums)!
Now available and in-stock at Toynk.com, while supplies last, the Motley Crue bobbleheads are priced at $40 each each. Fans can also purchase exclusive versions of Nikki Sixx with hat (also $40) and Tommy Lee with his upside down drum rig ($69.99), as well as an all-inclusive box set of all four rock stars AND the upside down drum rig ($249.99). Each bobblehead is a limited edition release, numbers running from as high as 1750 pieces for Nikki Sixx without his hat, to as low as 500 produced worldwide for Nikki with hat, Tommy with upside drum rig, and the “All Bad Things Must End” Box Set – up for review today. In other words, get ’em while they’re hot. These Motley Crue bobbles won’t be around forever. If you’re looking for a typing experience that’s a step above the rest, you need to make sure that you choose the best membrane keyboards .
To get a more accurate impression on the new Motley Crue bobbleheads, I went to a bona fide Motley Crue fan: my wife, Traci Saylor. While I may like Motley Crue, having grown up with them on the airwaves and MTV (yes, there was a time when they just played music videos), my wife absolutley LOVES them. She had the posters and the official roadie jacket. She has seen them in concert multiple times. She has all their albums and knows all their songs. Traci is a true Motley Crue fan.
As previously mentioned, each Motley Crue bobblehead stands an impressive 8.5-inches tall (Tommy crouched over his drums measures 8″) and is made of a high-quality polyresin. While you’ll want to take care with delicate pieces like Tommy Lee’s drum sticks (and you certainly don’t want to drop one on concrete), these resin bobbles are rather tough in construction. These are not uber fragile fine china pieces. Asked of their size and construction, Traci commented “These pieces are extremely durable and strong; their size is quite substantial – I was expecting them to be much smaller in scale and was pleasantly surprised that they were anything but. Leave it to Motley Crue to be larger than life – even in toy form!”
Sculpt-wise, each band member is a captured as a detailed caricature of their hard-rockin’ self. Traci? “My two favorite features of these bobbleheads are 1) Tommy and Nikki’s funky-chunky spiked hairdos, which are almost a true depiction of their own hair and 2) all of the band’s tattoos! They lend a real ‘bad boy’ aspect to these figures – not that Motley Crue needs ANY help in that area! Also, their over-exaggerated facial features are great – they allow each band member’s ‘personality’ to shine through- you can definitely tell who is who at a glance.”
As a bonus to the “All Bad Things Must End” bobblehead box set, Tommy Lee includes his upside down drum rig. This massive piece of polystone stands 12.5-inches tall and over 9-inches wide. Extremely heavy, the dynamic background piece features a very powerful magent at the top that allows you to – get this – hang the Tommy Lee bobblehead upside down from it.
As scary as it sounds to do this, the connection is surprisingly very solid and secure. This is a radical bobblehead first, as radical as it was seeing this rig in action during Motley Crue’s final tour.
The upside down drum rig, Traci. What are your likes and/or dislikes? “I absolutely LUVED this feature of the boxed set. How VERY innovative! I havn’t seen anything even remotely similar in collectible form. My only minor criticism would be that Tommy Lee’s round base (with his name) does not have a magnet in it if you choose not to display him hanging upside down. That said, if you have this set with the rig, you’re more than likely going to have him hanging from it. I know I am, so it’s really a moot point.”
Obviously if you don’t like Motley Crue, then these bobbleheads aren’t for you. I’m actually surprised you made it this far into the review. For the legions of rock ‘n’ roll fans that do, Locoape’s Motley Crue bobbleheads are stylish and unique music memorabilia sure to satisfy your passion for the bad boy band.
Traci, any closing thoughts? “Having grown up in Europe, I have seen quite a few Crue concerts and have been a life-long fan of the group – my all-time favorite concert being when the Crue opened for Ozzy!!! Enough said!”
“No matter where in the world they played – or what evolution of themselves they happened be portraying to the public – the Crue is, and will always be, a part of heavy metal history. I think these bobbleheads have captured the true spirit of 80’s metal and Motley Crue. As for my teenage obsession with Nikki Sixx, that is still well and truly alive!”
