Why I hate the new Mattel Voltron.

When I was young I had the original Voltron made of metal. I remember the day I saw it at the store and was all bouncing off the wall to get it. I mean I have at least 25 Transformers and used to compare all their powers using those neat little charts that they all came with.

Well since then my mother has given them all away without even asking me and this is story all to familiar with people.

So now I see Mattel has produced a new Voltron complete with cockpits for the action figures that pilot them.

Now I used to watch and breath Voltron back in the day so if you find my reason for not liking the new one rediculous I am sorry but this is what happens.

My big issue with this toy is the cockpits and the action figures.

Why would anyone who holds Voltron in such high regard ever agree to allow them to make the action figures 10 times bigger than they should be and to allow the cockpit to be 1/2 of the lion.

If they had ever watch Voltron they would know the head of the lion was the cockpit. You can google up images right now of them standing on the head or youtube a video of them climbing into the head or I believe I have seen a few times when then ran into the mouth to get in.

I would have rather seen tiny figures that actually fit where they belong instead of a crap design job just to say hey look the figures can now fit in the lions.

I suppose sometimes people do things just to do it instead of leaving things alone an not ruining them for people.

I can assure Mattel I would never buy a Voltron that has been ruined in such a way and especially one that is far out of proportion just to put figures in the lions.

I always thought they sat right behind the heads and looked out the lions eyes to see. No matter the figures are by far oversized for their purpose.

That is my review of the toy in general.

Besides that this thing is about $350 over priced as well. I have only seen them for $450 plus.

Yeah I could see how have giant figures would get annoying if you wanted them in scale. I had the trendmasters 1997 gift box figure that had the tiny pilots which were in scale with the figure. Mattel loves $$$ so they will probably release a smaller scale version eventually that transforms. If You can find it the trendmasters version from 1997 ( I got it from kay bee toys for dirt cheap R.i.p. Kaybee toys sniff )That Voltron might just be the one for you if you don't own it. All the pilots look like robo cop though. If You can over look that. It's a great figure and I haven't looked at the others. To Mattel's defense though. It was neat to get both the lion and the pilot instead of buying both seperately. Give Mattel time they will release a gift set and you can maybe get both if you change your mind :)
