REVIEW: TMNT Donnie's Power Sound FX Combat Gear Great Fun For The Turtle In All Of Us... Out in stores now - just in time for Halloween - are four Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Power Sound FX Combat Gear sets from Playmates Toys. There's a set for each of the four Turtles, and today we'll be taking a look at Donnie's combat gear set. These sets are geared for kids and the suggested age is four and up, meaning, well, adults can play with them too. Donnie's weapons comes with his signature bo staff, a ninja star, and a purple bandana. The pack comes in a larger sized blister card and with the bo staff sticking out on the bottom, this is definitely meant to be hung on a peg rather than on a shelf. While this does save on extra packaging that isn't needed, it is a bit awkward. But since it is indeed for the kiddies, they can get a better feel for the toy before they purchase, even trying out the ninja battle sounds. The back of the card shows you the other sets available, from Leo and his Katana blades, Raph's sai, Mikey's Nunchucks, and of course Donnie's bo staff. The bandana is actually of a very good quality material and something maybe all of us wish we had back in the '80s. The bandana is actually a perfect fit for both kids and adults, so if you want a bandana with the eyes already cut out for you, this is a good get. The ninja star is made of pretty sturdy plastic and features a sticker of Donnie (it's so the other Turtles don't take his stuff). The bo staff, while not quite a full size staff, is still pretty good for some role play fun. Made of a sturdy plastic, the staff has a nice wood sculpt to it. Of course there's also the Power Sound FX. Unfortunately, there's no "on" or "off" switch so no matter what you do - whether you move the bo, swing it, hit it against something - it will make sounds. There's action battle sounds as well, and some dialogue that starts to repeat after a few swings. The cost of the Power Sound FX Combat Gear set is about $20, but you might be able to find it for less than that. Playmates Toys continues to release fun product in support of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles line and if you have kids, this set is great for them. On a side note, the TMNT Combat Gear weapons actually fit in the hands of the Giant Leonardo Playset (read our review HERE), so I may be running out to get Leo's set too.
