HeroClix, Dice Masters, Attack Wing, & More...
Sharing booth space with NECA at New York Toy Fair 2015 was the gaming giant WizKids, and they brought the good stuff with displays of tons of upcoming products. First up is a game we’ve been hearing about for a while, the X-Men Mutant Revolution board game. Utilizing Gale Force Nine’s bidding system used in their Spartacus game, this experience pits X-Men leaders against each other while recruiting mutants. There are several different mechanics including cards and dice, the latter representing the stats of different characters. When you suffer damage you choose which dice to lose so you can determine what happens when your people are hurt. The game includes four figures utilizing existing HeroClix sculpts (Cyclops, Magneto, Wolverine, and Storm) but these are NOT SwitchClix and they don’t have HeroClix dials.
Of course this is a big month for DC HeroClix with the release of Justice League Trinity War as we’ve been covering, and we got to see the new Pandora’s Box and Rock of Eternity resources as well as the tokens and dice sets. We still don’t know exactly what they do, but they look awesome! It’s up to stores how they want to sell these and whether they will require brick or case purchases; the “case incentive” listing is to indicate that stores need to order cases to get the resources. Also coming soon is the War of Light Construct Gravity Feed with previously hard to get items as well as new ones.
Past Trinity War the first half of 2015 is pretty much all Marvel and Avengers! First up in April is the movie Avengers: Age of Ultron HeroClix with hobby/mass market Gravity Feed and Starter Set. May brings us the Avengers Assembled full booster brick set along with dice/token packs, an Iron Man & Captain America Quick Start pack, Ant-Man box set, and a Fast Forces featuring the original comic book Avengers. Inside the boosters you’ll also find randomly inserted Avengers I.D. Cards which have really cool interactions in the game. Summer also starts the comic-themed “Age of Ultron” Storyline Organized Play event, a four month tournament series with its own exclusive boosters! These will come in two waves like War of Light last year but with a smaller figure set - 28 in each wave for 56 total. The participation prize will be the Avengers Roundtable resource that works with the I.D. Cards, and the Grand Prize is the awesome Quinjet! Finally, July will bring the Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. booster set with more I.D. Cards and fun stuff.
Beyond the regular Marvel and DC sets, WizKids had on display this year’s Convention Exclusive items, both prize and purchase items. The boxes follow the traditional pattern for the prizes, and both Brainiac’s Ship and the Kree Supreme Intelligence come in cool window boxes. Speaking of, the latter will have a SwitchClix dial playable as a figure or usable as a resource! Lastly for HeroClix on hand were some figures from Yu-Gi-Oh! Series 3 including the chase Exodia!
WizKids’ display also included Dice Masters with current Marvel, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and Dungeons & Dragon releases plus the upcoming DC Justice League which will have boosters, starter, mat, box, and collector’s set products. A section of their display also held D&D and Pathfinder miniatures plus Star Trek and D&D Attack Wing including the large-scale ships and dragons.
