Star Wars, Marvel, DC, & Walking Dead...
It's a big week for collectors as Gentle Giant Ltd. announced a slew of new products now available for pre-order and coming later in 2016. The collectibles cover many of today's hottest franchises including Star Wars, the Walking Dead, and both Marvel AND DC Comics. While Gentle Giant is probably best known for its big statues, the company is making waves with new small-scale comic book figures. New for the DC Comics license is the Super Powers Micro-Figures line! Wave One ($3.50) is slated for Q3 2016 and brings Batman, Robin, Joker, and Flash in new mini-figures that recreate the look and feel of the classic 1984 Kenner line. They're sourced from scans of the original figures and scaled down to 2 inches tall and come with fabric capes (where applicable) though no articulation. Even the packaging is inspired by the Super Powers cards we all knew and loved.
Marvel Comics gets lots of love in this week's announcements with three very different items. Jump-starting Gentle Giant's new "Collectors Gallery" series of statues is Black Widow from Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Digital sculpting and scanning brought this 9 inch statue to life, and you can get her in Q3 2016 for $150. If you're looking for something a little more light-hearted check out the Skottie Young-inspired chibi-styled Captain America, an adorable 4.5 inch brightly colored statue (Q3 2016, $65).
Lastly, Series 2 of the Marvel Secret Wars Micro Bobbles is coming Q3 2016 ($3.49) and bringing Magneto, Captain America, Iron Man, and Daredevil to the fun series of 2.5 inch bobble headed figures.
While the Force Awakens is grabbing most of the headlines these days, Gentle Giant is bringing collectors some old school Star Wars goodness with the original trilogy Sandtrooper Statue. With all of the details you remember from A New Hope the Sandtrooper stands 12 inches tall and is hand painted. It will arrive Q3 2016 and costs $279.
The final addition this week is the sheriff himself, Rick Grimes from TV's the Walking Dead! This epic quarter scale statue (18 inches tall) was digitally sculpted and features the weary leader in his screen accurate outfit and loaded for bear. Also coming Q3 2016, Rick is the priciest of the new products shown this week at $399.
