In 1985, Tom Cruise wasn't yet a household name. He still had crooked teeth and was still starring in second tier films. However, that didn't stop Ridley Scott's fantasy tale Legend from becoming a cult hit with movie buffs and collectors. While Tom Cruise starred in the leading role as Jack, the boy warrior, it was Tim Curry (who would later star as Pennywise in the film adaptation of Stephen King's It) as the Lord of Darkness that stole the show.

Now, almost 25 years later, the Lord of Darkness is still as popular - if not more popular - as the day the film hit movie screens and Sideshow Collectibles is bringing fans a Legendary Scale bust of this diabolical fantasy monstrosity.

PACKAGING:

Packed in a massive and solidly-built cardboard box featuring graphics and text showing and describing the bust, this collectible comes divided in three pieces; the face, chest and base and the two individual horns. Each piece is well protected thanks to Sideshow's amazing styrofoam interior which securely holds the pieces and keeps them from being damaged. The exterior of the box features a large graphic of the bust as well as a short description of the character and collectible.

SCULPT:

There's nothing like the Lord of Darkness in any other film anywhere. The epitome of evil, Tim Curry brings to life hate personified and Sideshow brings to life the creature in gorgeous Legendary Scale form.

Showing every crease and crevice in the monster's face, chest, and horns, this bust - designed and created by the Sideshow Collectibles Design and Development Team (including Mat Falls, Erick Souza, Tom Gilliland, Don Rutherford, Jesse Lincoln and Darth Rimmer) gorgeously portrays the fan-favorite character. The massively long, swooping horns make this bust measure an impressive 21" high and 18" wide.

The face shows an evil smile of greed, lust, and satisfaction which will no doubt impress fans of the Dark Lord and his quest to kill all unicorns. The creature's pointed ears, protruding cheekbones, long chin and sweeping forehead unmistakeably make this one of the most impressive Lord of Darkness collectibles available (though, for the true fan, the sold-out 1:1 scale Lord of Darkness bust is without peer).

PAINT:

Brought to life in gorgeous three dimensions, the beautiful sculpt is elegantly painted to perfectly reflect the character's complexion in the film. The glossy, jet black horns reflect the light while the brilliant red of the beast's skin are shaded perfectly to truly make this piece look as if it could come to life at any moment. Likewise, the beady, yellow eyes with their horizontal pupils star menacingly towards any onlooker, challenging any to a duel.

COST & OVERALL IMPRESSION:

Limited to 1,000 pieces and priced at $249.99, a die-hard fan of the film Legend or its main baddie won't find a better high-end collectible for the money. While the company also offers a Lord of Darkness Premium Format Figure (reviewed HERE) and a massive (and long sold out) 1:1 scale bust of this evil entity, neither is this affordable.

Considering the cost, size, and beautiful attention to detail the Sideshow Collectibles Lord of Darkness Legendary Bust delivers, a smaller pocketbook shouldn't stop a true fantasy fan from owning this investment. With his swooping horns, menacing grin, and stare that could kill puppies, there's nothing like having the visage of the Lord of Darkness displayed in one's home. While I'm not saying it's good to have evil's approval, there's no doubt should you cross paths with the Devil and explain to him you have this in your house, he'd walk right on by with a sadistic smile of approval spread across his twisted face...
