It's a great time to be a 1:6 collector with the abundance of amazing 12-inch scaled action figures available from different companies. One of those companies which have been breaking ground with their innovatively unique in-house figure lines is Triad Toys. The newest release in their Ternion Wars line is the female Viking heroine Helga. Equipped with her trusty sword and shield, this fearless Geat heroine battles to protect her people from the Jen Tek genocides.
PACKAGING: The Helga figure is housed within a re-sealable clamshell which showcases the figure and all its accessories. There is not a strong emphasis on the packaging design for this figure but I suspect that this is just a money-saving strategy on behalf of Triad to keep the product cost low for collectors.
SCULPT/ACCESSORIES: Helga's body consists of the new Triad Alpha female 1:6 scale body. The head portrait features rooted Saran hair and looks highly realistic. The figure features several impressively crafted accessories such as the ornate shield and Viking helmet. All the weapons and accessories are intricately detailed and on par with the quality of other 1:6 figure companies such as Sideshow and Hot Toys.
What stands out the most for me on this figure is Helga's costume which consists of a pleather skirt, top and arm braces with string ties. Helga's leather-like boots feature a fur trim which looks truly fantastic and still remains flexible allowing the ankle articulation to remain functional. The boots also feature small magnets on the soles which are made to work with Triad's innovative bullet stands. The Viking helmet design is cool too as it can be placed in different ways on the figure's head. The only downside of the helmet is that it can fall off the head very easily since it does not completely cover it.
The Helga figure feature the following packed-in accessories:
- Viking Sword and scabbard
- Viking Helmet
- Ornate round shield
- Sword belt with functional sword frog
- Sword-wielding hands
- Relaxed hands
- Functional leather boots with fur trim and magnet
ARTICULATION: This figure is extremely versatile when it comes to the range of motion it is capable of. The Alpha body buck that Triad has developed is highly articulated and allows the figure to be displayed in numerous dynamic poses. I am sure that this figure can be placed in many more action poses by taking advantage of the magnetized bullet stand but unfortunately, I do not own one.
OVERALL: With the Ternion Wars Helga 1:6 scale figure, Triad has taken their articulated Alpha female body and enhanced it significantly with an impressive fabric costume and intricately detailed weapons resulting in a great addition to any 12" figure collection. At an MSRP of $79.99, this figure is much more affordable than other 1:6 scale figures on the market which is a great thing considering the current economic situation. There is a significant shortage of female figures in the 12" scale so this piece is a no-brainer if you're looking to balance out the gender scale in your collection. You can purchase this great figure directly through Triad Toys website - www.triadtoys.com - along with several other great products ranging from 12" scale costumes to highly detailed resin dioramas.
