Chrysalis
The Metal Gear saga continues with the latest game release on the PSP portable gaming system - Peacewalker - and Square Enix is bringing collectors a great selection of highly detailed collectibles based on the game. The latest addition to the collection is the new A.I. boss weapon collection which offers highly detailed and articulated scaled down versions of all the amazing boss mechs from the game, the Basilisk, Chrysalis, and Pupa.
PACKAGING: The vehicles collection follows in the footsteps of the Play Arts Kai action figures in terms of package design, using a vibrant black and yellow color scheme. Each vehicle is individually window-boxed in different sized boxes according to the size of the vehicle.
The back panel of the boxes features several images of the vehicles in their different display modes. The window box style packaging offers a clear look at the product within and will appeal to mint-in-box collectors.
SCULPT: The artists at Square Enix have truly outdone themselves with these innovative A.I. mech replicas. The level of detail put into each of the vehicles is phenomenal and the icing on the cake is the fact that theses sculpts are not static. The complex engineering of each highly-evolved vehicle is rendered flawlessly in three-dimensional form.
PAINT: Each vehicle is vividly colored with a military blend of warm grays, blues and yellow hues. The color application on each vehicle is clean and accurately applied. Some of the vehicles such as the Pupa and Basilisk, feature mud and dirt detailing on the undercarriage and lower sections of the vehicles adding more realism to their overall look.
ARTICULATION: At first glance, these pieces seem like highly detailed static replicas but they are a whole lot more than that. The Basilisk features extensively articulated parts and can be converted into multiple forms including a four-legged or biped cannon-toting mech. The Basilisk is the most articulated piece out of the collection with approximately 26 points of articulation. The Basilisk also features movable gun turrets and removable parts that allow customization.
The Chrysallis is also a heavily articulated hover ship which can be converted into several different modes. It features 26 points of articulation including rotating turrets, gyrating parts and hinge-jointed parts. The vehicle also has multiple removable parts as well allowing the vehicle to be converted into multiple variation modes.
While the smallest piece in the collection, the Pupa also features extensive articulation and removable parts.
OVERALL: These new amazingly detailed A.I. mechs offer a world of possibilities in terms of display options and will look great next to the MGS Play Arts Kai figures. Whether you’re a die-hard Metal Gear fan or just have a knack for collecting really cool mechs and robots, the Metal Gear Solid Peacewalker replica mechs are definitely worth picking up. These awesome boss mecha vary in price between $49.99 and $59.99 and are available for purchase now from Square-Enix.com and select fine retailers.
