Batman, Back To The Future, Star Wars, Marvel, & More...
One of the more interesting sections of the room at the New York Toy Fair 2015 Mattel press event was that devoted to Hot Wheels. Even more than previous years the line famous for its cars is expanding into all corners of the universe with comic book characters, movies, and more... even B. J. and the Bear! We’ll start there, with the latest TV/movie cars featuring the Batman Returns Batmobile, James Bond Goldfinger 1963 Aston Martin DB5, B. J. and the Bear Thunder Roller, and Ghostbusters II Ecto 1A. A Marvel car line features vehicle versions of comic book and movie characters from Guardians of the Galaxy and the Avengers with a new car and racetrack for Ultron.
The Hot Wheels Star Wars car collection continues as well in 2015, but the big news here is that Mattel is adding a new vehicle series that’s a little reminiscent of the old Action Fleet ships (but without the little figures). On display were the Millennium Falcon, Red 5 X-Wing, and a TIE Fighter, and they all looked pretty darn good.
Hot Wheels is bringing some larger scale vehicles for the fans this year too in the Elite series, starting with the “Back to the Future Time Machine” Special Edition (not sure why it’s not labeled as a DeLorean). This set includes all the parts you need to transform the car between the different versions seen in all the films with tires, rims, Mr. Fusion, and more. The Hot Wheels DC Comics Elite brings a repainted version of last year’s SDCC exclusive transforming Batmobile and a two-part set of 1966 Batman and Robin on their motorcycles.
