Add Some Dark Magik To Your Marvel Display...
Hey Marvel fans and people who like cool statues! Last time around I showed off some photos of the super cool Kotobukiya Marvel Now! Avengers Captain America ARTFX+ Statue, and this time I’m switching teams to the mutants. Today I’ll be showing you my latest acquisition, the 1/10th scale Marvel Now! X-Men Magik ARTFX+ Statue! The X-Men series was the follow up to the Avengers which marked the debut of Marvel characters in Koto’s hit ARTFX+ class with figures around 7 - 7 ½ inches tall for (usually) significantly less than $100. Like the Avengers, the X-Men series was based on a group shot illustration by Marvel artist Adi Granov, and possibly the coolest of the bunch is Illyana Rasputin, better known as Magik!
Koto’s X-Men statues come in packaging similar to their Marvel Now Avengers lineup, which means dynamic boxes covered in gorgeous artwork. Magik’s is overwhelmingly orange, with a convoluted background of two-tone comic book images. The front panel has a straight on photograph of the statue surrounded by the series name and all of the requisite logos and iconography. While one side panel displays the Uncanny X-Men logo the other has Granov’s illustration of the character so you can see just how closely the statue matches the artwork. As usual the back panel of the box has more photos of Magik from various angles plus a bio of the character and description of the statue.
Illyana Rasputin has always been a very interesting character, combining themes like youth and innocence with corruption, dark arts, and the taint of evil. The mystical mutant appears in Adi Granov’s X-Men illustration in a fierce pose, showing off her power as well as her allure. The statue replicates the artwork perfectly, starting with the strong stance as Magik leans on her massive Soulsword with both hands while standing with her feet more than shoulder width apart. A child no more, Illyana wears her distinctive Marvel Now costume with boots, thigh high stockings, very short shorts, a halter top, an armband, and a glove all in sleek black that looks like leather.
Her clothing is further decorated with belts and silver buckles, and her left arm is armored from shoulder to fingers with matte black plates and spikes. Magik also proudly wears a red “X” symbol on her right shoulder, and four panels of her headdress stick out from her blonde hair. Technically you can display the Lady of Limbo with or without her huge sword, which plugs into her outstretched hands. The Soulsword itself is really cool with an incredibly wide blade, crossguard that matches Magik’s headdress, and a subtle yellow and white glowing effect. Lastly, in keeping with the character’s otherworldly nature Illyana’s face is serene with a very slight smirk and eerie whited out eyes.
Whether you’re completing your Kotobukiya Marvel Now! X-Men collection or just want this stunning beauty you can get Magik now at fine retailers for about $55-60. This series has some very unique characters and even among them she stands out as one of the best with a great design and excellent craftsmanship. Check out the photos and decide for yourself if you want some Magik on your shelf.
